Vito Antuofermo

       Vito was born in Bari, Italy on February 9, 1952, and relocated to Brooklyn, new York in 1968, with his parents, two brothers and two sisters.  When Vito first came to America, he obtained a job installing fences and doing construction work.

        Vito began his boxing career as a teenager in 1970.  That year he won the New York State Golden Glove title.  He repeated as New York State Glove champ in 1971.  His boxing career continued until 1985.   His titles include Golden Gloves Champion 1970-1971, New York State Champion 1972, European Junior Middleweight Champion 1976-1977 and Undisputed World Middleweight Champion 1979-1980.

        One of Vito's most famous fights was a fifteen round title bout against Marvin Hagler, which took place in Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas.   Vito was the reigning champ, Hagler was the challenger.  Yet Hagler was heavily favored to win the fight, having won 20 straight fights prior to the bout, 18 by knockout.  Midway through the fight it appeared Hagler was ahead.  Vito stormed through the last eight rounds and the bout ended in a draw, Vito retaining his world title.

       Vito has gone on to have a careers in acting.   He has appeared in The Godfather III, Goodfellas. The Loser, and in several television shows and commercials.  He has also appeared on stage.  He was one of the male leads in the off-Broadway production of "Tony-n-Tina's Wedding," and is currently appearing in "Revenge in the Mob."

        Vito lives in Howard Beach, NY with Joan, his wife of 24 years, and his four children, Lauren, Vito Jr., Pasquale, and Anthony.

        When Vito is not working or at the gym staying in fabulous shape, he donates a great deal of time to charitable causes, including the Feast of Sts. Cosmas and Damian, and giving boxing lessons.  He has worked as a conditioning coach and instructor for PowerHouse Baseball for several years.
